Mazagon Dock, Goa Shipyard give major fillip to A.P.’s shipbuilding plans

The Andhra Pradesh (A.P.) Government’s plan to develop shipbuilding clusters received a major fillip in the form of tie-ups with the Mumbai-based Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd. (MDSL) and Goa Shipyard Ltd. (GSL).

This apart, the Kakinada gateway port area is being showcased as another potential location for setting up a shipbuilding unit.

While MDSL has signed a pact with the government for the development of the proposed mega shipbuilding cluster at Dugarajapatnam in Tirupati district earlier this week with an investment of ₹15,000 crore, the State Cabinet on September 23 cleared the establishment of a 400-acre shipbuilding facility at Machilipatnam in partnership with GSL, which committed to invest ₹8,000 crore.
