Matibag: Cayetano siblings returning to PH this weekend

NBI Director Melvin Matibag announced that Senators Alan Peter and Pia Cayetano are expected to return to the Philippines this weekend following a trip to Singapore. The NBI is currently investigating the senators regarding alleged irregularities in the 2019 SEA Games hosting and infrastructure projects in Taguig.
Why it matters
The investigation involves high-profile political figures and potential corruption, which is a significant matter of public interest and government accountability in the Philippines.
National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Director Melvin Matibag said on Friday, September 11, that Senate Minority Leader Alan Peter Cayetano and his sister, Sen. Pia Cayetano, will return home this weekend.
Matibag disclosed this just a few days after the Cayetano siblings were reportedly spotted boarding a flight to Singapore.
Interviewed after the Senate Committee on Economic Affairs’ hearing on the domestic steel industry, Matibag said he received information the two senators may be back in the Philippines by Saturday or Sunday evening.
“I have information that they will be coming back maybe tomorrow at 11 p.m., or Sunday at 11 p.m., SQ-918 [flight],” Matibag told reporters.
Matibag said he sees nothing wrong with the senators’ trip abroad but he also mentioned the “timing” of their flights.
