Martha Stewart’s 152-acre New York farm now has 100 chickens and 11 pheasants

When Martha Stewart purchased a 152-acre farmhouse in Katonah, New York, in 2000, the property was more than a country retreat. It became a working farm, creative laboratory and carefully managed home for an ever-growing collection of animals. Over the next 26 years, the former farmhouse evolved into Bedford Farm, also known as Cantitoe Corners, with horses, gardens, historic and modern buildings, and a remarkable variety of poultry. Stewart has said she keeps more than 100 chickens of different breeds. In recent years, she added 13 new birds, including Araucanas, Silkies, Sultans, Polish chickens, Buff Orpingtons and Rhode Island Reds. She later welcomed a young male silver pheasant, bringing the farm’s pheasant population to 11.
