Market Crash: Sensex tanks 900 pts intraday; Nifty below 22,900: what's behind mkt crash?
The Indian benchmark indices witnessed a sharp selloff on Monday after posting its longest weekly losing run last Friday since 2020. Higher crude oil prices and a spike in global bond yields following US President Donald Trump's rejection of Iran's latest proposal dampened investor sentiment. BSE barometer Sensex declined as much as 1,180 points or 1.60 per cent to 72,716 in intraday deals, while NSE benchmark Nifty 50 lost 378 points or 1.63 per cent to 22,762. The 30-share index closed the day at 72,771.72, down 1,124.02 points or 1.52 per cent. Meanwhile, the broader Nifty 50 index settled the session at 22,780.25, a fall of 360.25 points or 1.56 per cent from last close. The market capitalisation of all BSE-listed companies declined by ₹7.41 trillion to ₹474.47 trillion from ₹481.88 trillion on Friday.
