Marcos admin records fastest debt buildup in recent history
The Marcos administration has accelerated sovereign borrowing at the fastest rate of any presidency in recent history, expanding a national government obligations pile inherited from the previous administration. Data from the Department of Finance (DOF) showed that the cumulative borrowings added by the current administration reached ₱6.3 trillion by mid-2026, building on the ₱12.79 trillion in debt left behind by former President Rodrigo Duterte.
