More than 2,000 flights were canceled in the UK after the country's air traffic control provider, NATS, said it suffered a "technical issue" on Tuesday afternoon. London Heathrow Airport , Europe's busiest by passenger numbers and one of the world's most important transit hubs, was the worst affected. The skies over London were eerily empty as hundreds of thousands of passengers across the country were stuck waiting on the tarmac or in chaotic airport terminals.
