Manufacturing Contributes 16.5% of GDP, Offers 2 Million Jobs - UMA
The Uganda Manufacturers Association reports that the manufacturing sector contributes 16.5% to the national GDP and provides two million jobs. Government officials and industry leaders are collaborating to shift the economy away from raw material exports toward value-added production.

Uganda's manufacturing sector contributes over 16.5% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), offers approximately two million direct jobs, accounts for 25% of the country's manufactured exports, and generates more than 33% of domestic tax revenues, the Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA) has revealed.
UMA Chairman Aga Sekalala Junior disclosed the figures on Friday during a meeting between the Ministry of Finance and manufacturers, at which he described the sector's players as strategic partners in the country's economic transformation agenda.
Both sides renewed push to reposition manufacturing at the centre of Uganda's growth trajectory.
Finance Minister Henry Musasizi told the meeting that manufacturing remains a key pillar of Government's 10-fold economic growth strategy, noting its role in driving production, job creation, export earnings, and tax revenue growth, while reducing the country's dependence on external borrowing.
