Manipur Musician Death: police to record family’s statements; 8 held have no criminal past

The Delhi Police will record the statements of Manipur musician Chongtham Vikram Singh’s wife and son as part of their investigation into his death, officials said on Wednesday, adding that the seven men arrested and a 15-year-old boy apprehended in connection with the assault have no prior criminal records.
The 54-year-old guitarist from Imphal died on September 7 from injuries sustained during a violent assault after he allegedly objected to shouting and nuisance being caused by workers outside his residence in Kilokari village in southeast Delhi’s Ashram area. He was allegedly assaulted with fists and blows and was subsequently taken to hospital, where he died of his injuries.
Police are closely examining CCTV footage and forensic evidence as they prepare to file a chargesheet.
