A man who attacked a mother and daughter in the toilets of a pub, assaulting them both and sexually assaulting the mum, has been handed a 30-month sentence.

Sentencing Gavin Hamilton at Antrim Crown Court and ordering the 30-year-old to serve half his sentence in jail and the remainder on licence, Judge Sandra Crawford said the “unprovoked attack” incident had “devastated” the lives of the two victims and their family.

On the day he was due to go on trial earlier this year, Hamilton, with an address at Caw Close in Derry, entered guilty pleas to two charges of causing actual bodily harm and one of sexual assault by penetration.

Opening the facts of the case on Wednesday, the judge told the court that the mother and daughter had gone to the Harbour Bar in Portrush for a family meal in April 2023.
