Man who chased wife with machete retains financial control in relationship, court hears

A woman who told a court her husband chased her through their home with a machete “screaming that he would kill me” has secured an interim barring order against him.
She also told Dublin District Family Court that the man pushed her against a door in the house with such force it “came off the hinges”.
In a sworn statement, she said her husband had intimidated and put her in fear for a number of years but the relationship remained in place “due to his financial control”.
“He also controlled my every move, in and out of the house, and my phone,” she said.
The situation “escalated” last month, the court heard, when her husband got into an argument with her brother over the phone, who then came to their home to resolve it.
