Man United Starting XI vs Atletico Madrid: Confirmed Team News and Predicted Lineup
Manchester United faces significant squad depth challenges ahead of their Champions League match against Atletico Madrid due to injuries and fitness doubts. Manager Michael Carrick is weighing tactical adjustments, including potential defensive reshuffles, to compensate for the absence of key players like Luke Shaw.
Why it matters
High-stakes European football matches often hinge on squad availability, and tactical decisions made during injury crises can define a manager's tenure.
Manchester United head to Madrid with a problem, and Michael Carrick knows it. Luke Shaw and Kobbie Mainoo are both doubts for the Champions League meeting with Atletico Madrid, and neither trained with the squad on Monday morning at Carrington.
That matters. Shaw started in the 1-1 draw with Tottenham, then went off in stoppage time and was later seen limping away from Old Trafford. Mainoo completed the full match, but his absence from training has put him under the same cloud. Carrick is expected to clarify matters when he names the travelling squad and speaks later on Monday.
