Man to appear in court in Listowel on Thursday in relation to hit and run

A man is due to appear in court again on Thursday, charged in connection with a hit-and-run incident in Listowel in which a teenage pedestrian died.

37-year-old Alan Browne of Elmsdale Crescent, Birmingham, UK but who's originally from Skehenerin Listowel appeared before Cork District Court today.

He was charged in relation to a fatal hit-and-run incident in Listowel early on Saturday morning in which 17-year-old Rory O'Connor from Athea died.

17-year-old Rory O'Connor from west Limerick was walking on the N69 at Dromin Upper near Listowel shortly after 3 o'clock on Saturday morning.

He had celebrated his 17th birthday the day before.

Rory O'Connor was struck by a van, which failed to remain at the scene; it has since been found by An Garda S och na.

The teenage boy was pronounced dead at the scene.
