A 35-year-old man was stabbed to death following a drunken altercation with a couple near Tirumangalam here on Tuesday. Police have arrested a relative and his wife in connection with the murder.
The deceased has been identified as K. Pandithurai, 35, a resident of Kalappanpatti village near Tirumangalam in Madurai.
According to the police, an intoxicated Pandithurai went to the house of his relative, Rajesh Kannan, in the NGO Colony area on Tuesday night and picked up a dispute.
As the confrontation escalated, a heated argument broke out between Pandithurai, Rajesh Kannan and Kannan’s wife, Chithra Devi.
In a sudden fit of rage, the couple picked up a knife from the kitchen and stabbed Pandithurai multiple times, the police said. He sustained severe injuries to his back and abdomen.
Bleeding profusely, Pandithurai ran out of the house and collapsed a short distance away. Neighbours alerted the Thirumangalam Town police.
