The dead man has been named locally as Michael Harrington from Cahermore, Castletownbere, Co Cork. He was 57 years old.
It is understood Mr Harrington, who was from the area, went pollock fishing in a boat from Castletownbere last night.
The alarm was raised when debris was spotted close to Blackball Head this morning.
