PILIBHIT: A 23-year-old man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly making his 18-year-old girlfriend drink toilet-cleaning acid under the pretext of a suicide pact after his marriage was arranged with another woman.The incident took place around 5pm on Monday in Bhaugapur village under Bisalpur Kotwali police station limits. The girl's father said the accused, Banti Kumar, a farmer, called her to the outskirts of the village and made her consume the corrosive substance. He allegedly fled when she asked him to drink it as well.The girl was found writhing in pain by a passerby, who informed her family.
