The deceased was identified as R. Palaniammal (80), a resident of Periya Puthur near Kondalampatti. Her grandson, P. Viji of the same locality, was addicted to liquor and unemployed. On Monday night (September 28, 2026), he came to Palaniammal’s house and demanded money to buy liquor. When she denied providing the money, he reportedly attacked her using a stick. In the attack, she fainted, and he allegedly robbed her of a six-gram mangalsutra and fled.
