A 26-year-old man was arrested for allegedly abducting an 11-year-old boy to pressure the boy’s elder sister into marrying him, following a four-day investigation and a 20-kilometre chase from Loni in Ghaziabad to Azadpur in Delhi, the police said on Saturday.

On August 31, the boy left his Jahangirpuri home for school but did not return after which the family received a call from an unknown number. The caller identified himself as Dharam Pal, who was known to the family. “Dharam Pal wanted to marry the boy’s sister. However, she had turned down his proposal. To pressurise the woman, he abducted her brother and threatened to kill the child,” an official said.
