Man injured in dockside crane 'collapse'

A man was hospitalized after a dockside crane collapsed onto a container vessel at the Port of Tyne in South Shields. Emergency services, including air ambulance support, attended the scene, and police have confirmed the injuries are not life-threatening.

A man has been taken to hospital after a crane appears to have collapsed on a ship at a dock on the south bank of the River Tyne.
Northumbria Police said it was called to South Shields Port of Tyne at 13:00 BST after "it was reported that, for reasons yet to be established, a ship had collided with a crane".
Images show the crane on its side and leaning on to part of a container vessel.
North East Ambulance service (NEAS) said the man was transported to Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle. Police said the man's condition was not thought to be life threatening.
