The Pavoorchathram police have arrested a man for allegedly attempting to murder his daughter and son-in-law as the girl had married a youth from another intermediate caste against his wishes.

Police said Akash, 23, of Alangulam was in love with Sushmitha, 21, an intermediate caste girl from Mela Ariyanayagipuram in the same area and married her three months ago even though the girl’s father, Murugan, was intensely opposing it.

The couple lived in a rented house at Sivagamipuram near Pavoorchathram.

When Akash and Sushmitha were in their home on Thursday night, Murugan trespassed into their house and allegedly hacked the couple with a machete in which they sustained grievous multiple cut injuries. He escaped on a bike from the scene of crime.
