The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) is conducting search and rescue operations for a 57-year-old man who went overboard on a passenger cargo vessel in the sea of Isla Verde, Batangas and Baco Chico Island, Calapan City, Oriental Mindoro on Friday, Sept. 25. The victim was identified as Loloi Olitres, who was wearing a blue long-sleeved shirt aboard MV Starlite Salve Regina enroute from Batangas to Caticlan. The incident happened at about 7:11 p.m., 2.21 nautical miles northwest of Baco Chico Island.
Investigation through vessel closed-circuit television footages showed Olitres boarding the ship at around 3:24 p.m. on Sept. 25. A CCTV footage from a bus company was requested for verification. Responding units are utilizing drift pattern projections generated by the Search and Rescue Optimal Planning System (SAROPS) platform in the search for Olitres.
