A 28-year-old man was electrocuted, and three others were injured after a banner they were removing allegedly came into contact with a high-tension power line in Villupuram on Sunday (September 20, 2026). The deceased was identified as Madhankumar of Rajiv Gandhi Nagar in Villupuram.
The incident occurred on K.K. Road when four youths from Rajiv Gandhi Nagar had gone to put up a banner for a birthday celebration.
Before installing the birthday banner, the group led by Mr. Madhankumar attempted to remove a banner that had been put up earlier for Vinayaka Chaturthi celebrations.
Police said the banner that was put up on a high-mast lamp reportedly brushed against a high-voltage electric line during the process.
