Hours before his daughter’s wedding, a 58-year-old man was electrocuted while working at his house in Kollanthoppu near Regunathapuram in the district on Friday.

Police said P. Karuppaiah was erecting a palm-leaf fence around his residence using a binding wire in the morning. His hand came into contact with electrical leakage from a nearby meter box and he was thrown backward in the impact.

Family members and neighbours took him to Regunathapuram Government Primary Health Centre, where the duty doctor examined him and declared him ‘brought dead’. Thiruppullani police have registered a case.

In another incident, a 55-year-old man from Madurai who travelled to Rameswaram to perform ancestral rites drowned in a swimming pool at a beach resort on Friday. He was identified as V. Soundrapandian, a resident of Vadapalanji in Madurai.
