Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following the collision, which occurred on the N81 at Athgarvan, Co Wicklow at around 11.15am.
The driver of the car, a man in his 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene.
His body has been taken to the mortuary at Naas General Hospital, where a postmortem examination will take place.
