The Poonamallee All-Women Police on Monday arrested a 44-year-old man for allegedly sexually assaulting a seven-year-old girl, who was playing outside her house in Poonamallee on Sunday. Police sources said the arrested was identified as R. Saravanan of Kattupakkam, a load van driver. He was from the same locality as the victim. Saravanan allegedly abducted the girl under the pretext of getting her chocolates from a shop nearby and took her to a nearby cremation ground, where he committed the offence. Based on a complaint lodged by the girl’s mother, the police registered a case under the POCSO Act and arrested Saravanan. He was remanded in judicial custody.
