Why it matters
These incidents highlight ongoing concerns regarding domestic violence and unexplained deaths in local Kenyan communities, prompting police investigations.
A 32-year-old secondary school teacher was killed in a suspected murder allegedly committed by her husband in Mutitu North Sub-County, Kitui County.
The victim, identified by police as Hellen Ngindu Matuvi, a teacher, was travelling as a pillion passenger on a motorcycle ridden by her husband when the incident occurred near Nguni Drift.
According to police, the suspect stopped the motorcycle by the roadside before both of them alighted.
Eyewitnesses told investigators that he allegedly attacked his wife with a sharp object, inflicting a deep stab wound on the left side of her ear.
Police believe the suspect then attempted to conceal the alleged murder by staging a road accident.
Investigators say he pushed the motorcycle into the drift to make it appear that the couple had been involved in a crash.
