Man arrested for stealing clothes from girls’ hostel

Police in Bellare arrested a man for stealing clothes from a girls' hostel after CCTV footage confirmed his identity. Separately, Kavoor police apprehended a woman who had been evading court appearances for five years regarding a 2019 theft case.

The Bellare police have arrested K. Ramachandra, 35, a resident of Koltige in Puttur taluk of Dakshina Kannada, on the charge of stealing clothes from the Government Girls Hostel in Bellare.
In a statement, the police said students of the hostel had on September 2 complained to the warden that clothes left out to dry were stolen. The warden checked CCTV footage and noticed a person trespassing into the hostel and taking away clothes belonging to some girls.
Based on the complaint, the police zeroed in on Ramachandra and arrested him on September 7 for stealing the clothes. He was produced before the jurisdictional magistrate court, which remanded him in judicial custody till September 15, the police said.
The Kavoor police have arrested 44-year-old Lata Mariya of Akash Bhavan in Mangaluru, who had failed to appear before the court for over five years in a theft case registered against her.
