Man arrested for setting woman on fire in Washermanpet

The police arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly setting a 32-year-old woman on fire near Washermanpet on Friday night. The woman, M. Mohana, suffered about 50% burns and is undergoing treatment at Kilpauk Medical College Hospital.

The accused, M. Babulal, who was acquitted from a murder case earlier, was detained under the Goondas Act, the police said.

Investigators said Babulal and Mohana were allegedly in a relationship, and that she had been avoiding him for the past few months.

On Friday night, he allegedly came to her house, poured petrol on her, and set her on fire before fleeing.
