A 44-year-old security guard has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 23-year-old woman with an intellectual disability, after luring her with promise of marriage. The police rescued the woman from Periyapalayam in Tiruvallur district. According to the SRMC All-Women police station, the accused, identified as A. Dhanavel, was employed as a security guard at a private company near Porur. Investigators said the victim became acquainted with Dhanavel while visiting the company to deliver lunch to her elder sister, who worked there. Over time, the accused allegedly developed a relationship with the woman and was suspected of exploiting her vulnerability. On Saturday, the woman left home to deliver lunch to her sister as usual but failed to return. Concerned family members searched for her and later approached the police after their efforts proved unsuccessful. Based on the complaint, the police launched an investigation and traced the woman’s whereabouts using her mobile phone location data. The search led officers to Periyapalayam, where the woman was found along with the accused. The police subsequently secured the woman and arrested Dhanavel. The victim was taken to a government hospital for medical examination and care.
