A 45-year-old woman who was allegedly attacked with an axe by her son-in-law over a dowry dispute succumbed to her injuries at a private hospital in Bengaluru on Sunday.
The accused, identified as Akbar, a labourer, has been arrested by the police.
The deceased, Roshan Bi, was living with her children near Medi Agrahara in Vidyaranyapura after her family moved to Bengaluru from their native village in Surpur taluk, Yadgir district, about seven years ago.
According to the police and the victim’s family, Akbar had been demanding two tolas of gold for his three-month-old son and had allegedly threatened to kill his mother-in-law if the demand was not met.
On Friday, July 10, he allegedly attacked Roshan Bi with an axe, inflicting grievous injuries. She was rushed to a nearby hospital by residents but died during treatment on Sunday.
