Man and officer injured
A police officer and a man were injured during a shooting outside the Sons of Jacob Synagogue in Belleville, Ontario. The officer, who was stationed at the building for security, was targeted while sitting in an unmarked vehicle.

Norm Weddum, president of the congregation at Sons of Jacob synagogue, who was inside at the time of the shooting, said a “firefight started and all hell broke loose” outside the building in the east end of Belleville. He said there were some teenagers but no small children inside the building at the time.
He said the officer, who was shot, was stationed outside the synagogue in an unmarked police cruiser.
He said if the officer was not stationed there at the time, “it would’ve been a different outcome, that’s for sure and I probably wouldn’t be standing here talking to you.”
He said the officer was sitting inside a black pickup truck that was parked on the driveway of the synagogue. The Star observed that the right passenger side of the truck was riddled with bullets.
