The police said that Sellamuthu, 61, a welding worker and resident of Mariamman Kovil Street, and his relative Mohan lived in the same locality. Sellamuthu is Mohan’s maternal uncle. According to the police, about 10 years ago, Sellamuthu and his brother Ranganathan acquired a family property at Perur in Salem district after paying ₹5 lakh to Mohan’s mother, Rasammal, as part of the property division.
