A 25-year-old murder accused, who was returning from a court in Chengalpattu after appearing in connection with a murder case, was hacked to death by a six-member gang at a fuel outlet on the Chengalpattu bypass in broad daylight on Tuesday.

The victim, Muthu Veera, 25, of Urapakkam, had several criminal cases pending against him. He was out on bail.

After a court hearing, Muthu Veera was returning home on a two-wheeler with two friends.

When the trio stopped at a fuel outlet on the Chengalpattu bypass, six men surrounded Muthu Veera and attacked him with sickles. The assailants repeatedly hacked him and then fled the scene. He died on the spot.
