Man, 50s, due in court charged over Healy-Rae assault

A man has appeared in court charged with assaulting Kerry TD Michael Healy-Rae.

Anthony Foley, aged 51, of Rosary Road in Dublin 8, was charged with assault causing harm on Cork Street in Dublin on Wednesday.

Garda Paul Nolan of the Serious Crime Unit gave evidence of his arrest, charge, and caution, saying that Anthony Foley made no reply when the charge was put to him.

He said that Mr Healy-Rae had been driving on Cork Street when he was approached by a person on his driver's side window before he was struck in the face.

He said that the Independent TD suffered a laceration to his upper lip which required seven stitches, and that he requires further assessment from a dentist.

He said that the incident was caught on CCTV.
