Male elephant found dead near Coimbatore

A male wild elephant over 40 years old was found dead in the Boluvampatti range of the Coimbatore Forest Division. Forest officials have conducted a post-mortem and collected samples to determine the cause of death, noting that the tusks remained intact.

According to the Forest Department, field staff spotted carcass of a tusker at Kariyampadugai within Poondi south forest beat limits during a patrol around 5.30 p.m. on Wednesday. The carcass in decomposing state was found on the dry bed of a stream. The elephant's tusks of the elephant were intact.
A team of veterinarians performed the post-mortem examination on the carcass in the presence of the Department staff and representatives from non-governmental organisations on Thursday.
