Why it matters
National sporting achievements at international events are significant for cultural pride and the development of professional sports programs.
NAGOYA, Oct 3 — Malaysia matched its best-ever gold medal haul at the Asian Games after securing three golds on Day 14 of the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Games, taking its tally to nine with two more opportunities to set a new record today.
The three golds came from track cycling ace Datuk Mohd Azizulhasni Awang in the men’s keirin, as well as the women’s and men’s squash teams in their respective team events.
The haul saw Malaysia match the nine gold medals won at the Guangzhou 2010 edition, with the national contingent now one gold away from setting a new record at the Games.
Two opportunities to make history will come today through the men’s doubles padel and men’s hockey finals.
