NEW DELHI: Maharashtra government on Friday announced that it will set up a committee within two weeks to draft the legislation for the Uniform Civil Code. "The committee to draft the legislation for the Uniform Civil Code is in process and will be set up within two weeks," an official said.State minister Yogesh Kadam last week informed the assembly that the UCC will be implemented in Maharashtra and a committee under a retired high court judge would be constituted to prepare the draft of the legislation.UCC is a constitutional directive that aims at establishing a common set of laws governing marriage, divorce, inheritance, adoption etc. for all citizens. It is currently implemented only in three states of India including Uttarakhand, Goa and Assam. The bill has been tabled across several other states including Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal.
