Mahama, First Lady to grace opening of World Assemblies of God Congress
President John Dramani Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama are scheduled to attend the 10th Triennial World Assemblies of God Congress in Accra. This event marks the first time the global fellowship has held its congress in Africa, with over 10,000 participants expected.
Why it matters
Hosting a major international religious congress provides significant visibility and potential economic benefits for the host nation.
President John Dramani Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama are expected to grace the opening ceremony of the 10th Triennial World Assemblies of God Congress in Accra on October 14, 2026.
The General Superintendent of Assemblies of God, Ghana, Rev. Stephen Yenusom Wengam, disclosed this at a press conference in Accra on Thursday, October 1.
He said President Mahama and Mrs Lordina Mahama, both members of Assemblies of God, Ghana, have confirmed their participation in the opening ceremony, which will be held at the Black Star Square.
"The most prominent on the list is His Excellency the President of the Republic, John Dramani Mahama. It is common knowledge that the President is a member of Assemblies of God, Ghana. What is uncommon is his tremendous support for the World Congress," Rev. Wengam said.
