A large number of people from Sholavandan and nearby areas visit Thiruvedagam to perform rituals and immerse ashes on the Vaigai riverbank. However, lack of basic facilities has caused considerable inconvenience.
Old clothes are dumped near the river and the bathing tank, which is poorly maintained and covered with algae. Broken bottles scattered near the ghats also make it difficult to access the river. Women are forced to change clothes in the open due to lack of proper facilities.
The district administration and local body should provide garbage bins, clean the bathing tank and riverbank, and provide changing facilities to keep the area clean and convenient for visitors.
The death of four girls of the same family after their two-wheeler collided with a college bus near Sakkarampalayam, Tiruchengode, is deeply distressing.
