The garbage collection yard on Sampattipuram Main Road has become a major source of inconvenience for residents. The road is an important arterial link connecting the Bypass Road and Theni Main Road. Over the years, the Corporation has been using a Revenue Department site in the area as a garbage collection point.
The locality has now developed into a densely populated residential area with apartments, a government school and a Primary Health Centre nearby. The accumulation of garbage throughout the day causes foul odour, unhygienic conditions and health concerns for residents.
The Madurai Corporation Commissioner should intervene and relocate the garbage collection yard to a suitable location in the interest of public health and sanitation.
