Madurai district police plan to install ANPR cameras at 30 junctions on highways

The police have embarked on an ambitious plan to put up automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) cameras at 30 important junctions of highways across Madurai district.
The high-resolution advanced cameras are equipped to capture the number plate and other critical details of every vehicle that exceed the speed limit on highways. Work on the installation of cameras is under way.
The ₹1.32-crore project was being implemented under Road Safety Fund.
“The software would process the images of vehicles and immediately push minimum but vital details like number plate, colour of the vehicle, its type and logo,” said Superintendent of Police N. Devanathan.
