Madonna leads VMAs winners as Swift makes history

Madonna was the biggest winner at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, taking home seven prizes, while Taylor Swift made history as the most-awarded artist in the ceremony's history.

Madonna was named Artist of the Year at Sunday night’s ceremony in Los Angeles and also won Best Album for Confessions II.

Her other wins included Best Collaboration with Sabrina Carpenter for Bring Your Love , as well as Best Dance, Best Cinematography, Best Choreography and Best Long Form Video for Confessions II - The Film.

The 68-year-old also opened the ceremony, returning to the VMAs stage for her first performance at the awards in 23 years.

Swift took home three awards, including Video of the Year for The Fate of Ophelia and Best Direction for Opalite.

She was also presented with the inaugural MTV VMA Artist Director Honors, recognising her work behind the camera.
