Madhavi Latha’s visit to Bagalkot Ganesha immersion cancelled

The visit of Kompella Madhavi Latha, BJP leader from Telangana, to the Ganesha immersion procession in Bagalkot, was cancelled after the district administration banned her entry into the district.

Deputy Commissioner Sangappa issued an order under BNSS 163 (power of the Executive Magistrates to issue urgent temporary orders to prevent danger, nuisance, or public disturbances), banning her entry into the district citing possible disturbances to law and order.

The Deputy Commissioner quoted that Ms. Latha caused disturbances in the past by gesturing toward a place of worship as if she were shooting an arrow.

The order was based on a report by Superintendent of Police Siddarth Goyal. The report cited a few communal disturbances during Ganesha immersion in the district in the past.

Ms. Latha questioned the decision of the State government. She posted on social media that they were trying to stop a Sanatani from celebrating a festival peacefully.
