M.K. Suresh Kumar, Palakkad district bureau chief of Siraj newspaper, has won the third K.M. Basheer Memorial Award for his commitment to Malayalam news reporting.
He received the award from Tourism Minister P.C. Vishnunadh and Madin Academy chairperson Syed Ibrahim Khaleel Bukhari at a function held in Malappuram on Thursday.
The award consisted of a memento, citation and a cash prize. The Muslim Jamaat has instituted the award in memory of journalist K.M. Basheer, whose death in an accident in Thiruvananthapuram in 2019 had shocked Keralam and triggered outrage against reckless driving.
