LVPEI stress early detection for keratoconus

Doctors at the LV Prasad Eye Institute are warning about the early detection of keratoconus, a progressive eye condition that causes corneal thinning. They emphasize that early diagnosis and modern treatments can prevent vision deterioration and long-term complications for young patients.
Why it matters
Early intervention is critical to preventing permanent vision loss in young adults who are often misdiagnosed with simple refractive errors.
Doctors from LV Prasad Eye Institute, GMR Varalakshmi Campus, caution about keratoconus, a progressive eye condition. Consultant Ophthalmologist, Divya Tara, said every year, many teenagers and young adults struggle with frequent changes in prescription glasses and deteriorating vision, often misdiagnosed as simple refractive error or myopia.
She said that this may be the silent onset of keratoconus, a progressive eye condition, where the normally round cornea thins and bulges outward into an irregular cone shape. Unlike regular refractive errors, if left undetected, keratoconus can severely disrupt a young person’s career and quality of life.
