LTA to roll out AI system using bus cameras to detect bus lane encroachments, road defects

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) in Singapore will deploy an AI-powered video analytics system on buses starting in late 2026. The technology will monitor bus lanes for illegal encroachment and identify road infrastructure defects to improve safety and enforcement.
Why it matters
This initiative represents a significant shift toward automated urban management, potentially reducing traffic violations and improving road maintenance efficiency through AI.
The system achieved an average accuracy of 90 per cent in trials, with deployment starting in the fourth quarter of 2026 and expansion to all bus routes by 2030.
