LTA proposes merging COE Cat A and B into one car category, with rebates and surcharges; NSF pronounced dead being found unconscious at Basic Military Training School 3 on Pulau Tekong: Singapore live
The Singapore Land Transport Authority has proposed merging COE car categories A and B into a single pool with a 'feebate' system to stabilize prices. Separately, a full-time national serviceman was found dead at the Basic Military Training School on Pulau Tekong, with investigations currently underway.
Why it matters
The proposed transport policy shift could significantly alter vehicle affordability in Singapore, while the tragic death of a serviceman highlights ongoing safety concerns within the military.
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has proposed merging Certificate of Entitlement (COE) Categories A and B into a single passenger car category, with a fee-and-rebate, or "feebate", system based on each car's value, and opened a public consultation that runs from 8 Oct to 11.59pm on 2 Nov. All cars would bid from one merged pool for a single prevailing COE price, with a rebate or surcharge of up to S$15,000 then applied according to the median open market value of each model, a maximum gap of S$30,000, according to reports.
