Clemson had no one but quarterback Christopher Vizzina in the backfield. LSU safety Dashawn Spears appeared to want to stay in the tackle box with linebackers TJ Dottery and Whit Weeks, but Dottery pointed him toward the opponent’s No. 3 receiver.
LSU’s defense stretched out like an accordion to cover up a spread formation, leaving only a split second between Dottery’s final command and the snap. His eyes quickly found his target, as they seemingly would all night.
Clemson revealed its hand. Perhaps the speediest player on the field, running back Chris Johnson, was motioning toward Vizzina at the snap. Dottery barrelled toward the line, refusing to allow a jet sweep to get outside of him. Edge defender Jordan Ross kept tabs on Vizzina on the off chance he kept the ball.
