LSM launches charity drive for Ukrainian soldiers' rehabilitation

Latvian Public Media and the charity Ziedot.lv have launched a fundraising campaign to support the rehabilitation of Ukrainian soldiers. The initiative aims to provide both physical and psychological care for those wounded in the ongoing war.
The ambassador for this year’s “Together with Ukraine in Thought and Deed!” fundraising campaign is Odita Krenberga, a journalist with Latvian Public Media, who emphasises: “As a journalist reporting on events on the Ukrainian front line, I have experienced first-hand what the horrors of war mean. When only seconds separate you from death or serious injury. But many have not had that chance. Russia has taken the lives of hundreds of thousands of people. And even more have been wounded. This is a painful injustice, and we must help Ukraine, because today the Ukrainians are fighting not only for their country’s freedom, but also for the security of us all, for a safe Europe and a safe Latvia.” Donations can be made by calling 90204113 (call charge: 5 euros including VAT) or online via “Ziedot.lv” Rūta Dimanta, head of “Ziedot.lv”, noted: “The wounds of war take a long time to heal. They are not just physical pain, but the pain of loss, helplessness and injustice. Ukrainian soldiers must live with the deaths of their comrades, their own physical injuries and the pain in their souls. We cannot erase this pain, but we can ensure that Ukrainian soldiers receive the rehabilitation that will enable them to carry on with their lives. Every donation will help to fund rehabilitation in Ukraine and Latvia.” The funds raised through this campaign, in collaboration with LSM, the charity “Ziedot.lv” and the Ukrainian Embassy in Latvia, will be channelled in full towards the campaign’s objective. The support project will run from 17 August to 13 September. Since the start of the war, LSM, in collaboration with “Ziedot.lv”, has actively supported aid efforts for Ukraine, and more than 2 million euros have already been raised in various campaigns during this time.
