LPG price hike: 19-kg commercial cylinder gets Rs 62.50 costlier
Commercial LPG cylinder prices have increased by Rs 62.50, while domestic consumers are now required to complete Biometric Aadhaar Authentication to receive subsidies. Those who opt out of the biometric process will be charged the full market price for LPG refills.
Why it matters
The policy change reflects a broader government effort to digitize subsidy delivery and reduce the diversion of resources.
The price of a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder has risen by Rs 62.50 from Thursday, October 1, taking the price to Rs 2,810. This follows a Rs 9.50 increase in September, when the cylinder was priced at Rs 2,747.50. ATF prices have also gone up by around Rs 16 per litre, from Rs 121 to Rs 137 per litre. The changes come as domestic LPG consumers face a new requirement from October 1, 2026. Those seeking to book refills at the regulated Retail Selling Price (RSP) with applicable subsidy will now need to have completed Biometric Aadhaar Authentication (BAA).The authentication requirement is aimed at ensuring that subsidised LPG reaches genuine and deserving households.
