In a dramatic sequence straight out of a film, a 21-year-old newly married woman was allegedly abducted by a gang sent by her family, only for the getaway vehicle to crash into several vehicles, leaving six people injured before the police rescued her.

Pooja, daughter of Gunaramu and a native of Melwas village in Rajasthan, had married Om Prakash, 23, also from Melwas, in a love marriage around eight to nine months ago against the wishes of their families. The couple subsequently came to Bengaluru and settled in Agrahara Dasarahalli.

According to the police, Pooja’s family, unable to accept the marriage, allegedly sent four men to Bengaluru to bring her back. The men allegedly entered the couple’s residence and abducted Pooja before fleeing in a car.
